Knicks remain dumpster fire

The New York Knicks are a laughingstock of professional sports. It’s hard to be a complete and utter failure when you are playing basketball in a city known for being the Mecca of the sport, but the Knicks under the “leadership” of Jim Dolan have mastered the craft.

Dolan, the mastermind of CableVision, has not found basketball quite as easy as the business world. The Knicks are a failure on every level, currently sitting 24-35 and only better than the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference. Of course, New York can at least take some solace that it has a first-round pick … or wait, it was traded, because this is the Knicks.

New York used to have one of the best home-court advantages in the league, but this season, the Knicks are only 14-16. This continues the decade-long pattern of not being able to defend Madison Square Garden, something that just underscores how big of a mess this organization is.

The Knicks are on their second coach of the season after firing Derek Fisher earlier in the month. Outside of his inability to find a solid rotation, there were the constant rumors of Fisher and his forays (or wanted forays) with random women related to the NBA in some capacity, particularly in regard to the ex-wife of Matt Barnes.

New York has been in the tank for years, and it is showing no sign of turning around. The Knicks have won exactly one playoff series since the 1999-2000 season, showcasing the ineptitude on 34th street in lower Manhattan. President Phil Jackson knocked his first-round pick out of the proverbial park this season with Kristaps Porzingis, but nothing else has gone according to plan.

Porzingis is only 20 years old and as a rookie is lighting up the NBA with 14.1 points and 7.4 rebounds in just over 28 minutes per minutes. However, outside of the highly-paid and solidly-producing star in Carmelo Anthony, the rest of the roster is hot, rotting garbage. Arron Afflalo has been a middling contributor despite his absent defense, but he is the least of Jackson’s problems.

Robin Lopez was given a large four-year deal in the offseason, but he is averaging 9.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in 59 starts. The point guard position has been a total disaster, with Jose Calderon yet to prove he is still among the living. Then there is the duo of Lance Thomas and Derrick Williams coming off the bench, neither of which should be playing any kind of real minutes for an NBA team.

The playoffs are again a pipe dream. The defense stinks, the head coaching position is a wreck and there is no first-round draft pick. Other than that, everything is swell for the Knicks, who seem destined to fail at every turn.
