Lamar Jackson On Vital Play That Ended Patrick Mahomes Hoodoo

Before Sunday’s game, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson played down his record against Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Up until then, he hadn’t won in four consecutive games against his fellow MVP and Super Bowl winner.

“It’s not about me and Mahomes,” Jackson said. “Not to me, probably to everyone else. But it’s the Ravens versus the Kansas City Chiefs.”

“They did beat us three times or whatever, but that’s in the past,” Jackson added. “I’m not dwelling on those losses. We’re coming in Sunday night and we’re going to play.”

Acting like it wasn’t on his mind was the right attitude from Lamar Jackson. However, after a 36-35 win over Kansas on Sunday, his relief was palpable.

“It feels good. It feels good to get that monkey off our back,” Jackson said.

Jackson finished the game going 18-for-26 passing for 239 yards and a touchdown, and added 107 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Those three touchdowns all came in the second half.

Lamar Jackson turned the ball over twice, just as he did in Week 1. In the vital moment, though, he delivered. At 1:05 left on fourth-and-1 from the Ravens’ 43-yard line, Jackson got the first down, gaining two yards.

“I was like, man, I gotta get this first down no matter what,” Jackson said.

“Man, no matter what, getting that first down,” Jackson continued. “Coach asked me, ‘Should we go for it?’ I said, ‘Hell yeah.’

“We had to get it.”
