Lindsey Vonn Injured While Training In Colorado
While training in Colorado on Tuesday American alpine skier Lindsey Vonn suffered a serious setback in her long road back to the slopes after injury sustained at the 2013 World Championships in January required major knee surgery last February.
Though Vonn was taken down hill on a sled after the crash, the full extent her injuries will not be known for at least 24 hours. U.S. Ski Team spokesman Tom Kelly told the AP that there’s “no reason to believe it’s anything significant right now.”
The injury Vonn had been recovering was certainly significant. She tore several ligaments in her right knee in a high-speed accident and was hoping to return to competitive action next week at a race in Beaver Creek, Colo.
Vonn, who won gold in the Downhill and bronze in the Super-G at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, has said recently her comeback was months ahead of schedule. She even considered making her comeback in the season-opening giant slalom event last month, before changing her mind.
The most troubling part of Vonn’s most recent injury is the timing in relation to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, which kick off with the opening ceremony on February 7th. Less than three months from now.
More information on Vonn’s status is expected on Wednesday.
