According to Allen himself, who approached a number of media outlets (TMZ, Deadspin, SB Nation) trying to sell the evidence and secure a payday before reporting it to the NCAA, he was upset that Gurley had devalued his inventory by working with other dealers.
If you’re thinking that sounds like a bunch of bull, that’s probably because it is. Allen’s revenge story sounded suspect from the beginning, but now that Florida State’s Jameis Winston’s name has been thrown into the mix, this is looking more like a targeted attack on Florida’s two biggest rivals.
It certainly looks bad for Allen. And it’s fair to say UGA fans aren’t willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point. They’ve been taking to Twitter and Facebook en masse to voice their displeasure—some in more threatening ways than others.
Allen has already hired a lawyer, so he’s clearly feeling the heat. He better brace himself though, because if the Winston thing pans out, things are only going to intensify from the fan direction.
Update: According to Jim Galloway of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Allen may not only have made himself an enemy of an entire nation (assuming #DawgNation qualifies), he may have also run afoul of the law in the process. The short version is that it’s actually illegal in Georgia to knowingly entice student-athletes into acts that put their scholarships at risk. Although the long version is definitely worth reading—click over to the AJC for details.

Even Gator fans want nothing to do with Allen!
And some “reviews” from the Facebook page of Allen’s business:
