Orioles, Royals Head to Kansas City

While the Orioles were able to sweet the first round of the playoffs in three games, they are finding a little bit more struggle in their latest series against the Kansas City Royals. After Saturday’s game, the Orioles are down 2-0 after playing two games at home.

The Orioles bullpen was phenomenal during the regular season and first three games of the playoffs. Throwing the right balls at the right time, coming through in the 11th hour more times than not. It seems like that Orioles magic might have run out for the pitchers but there are still plenty of other ways for the entire team to improve and win at least two of their next three games on the road. The Royals are now nearly halfway to getting to the World Series, winning six straight games.

The Orioles are in the league final for the first time since 1997. The last time that they lost back-to-back games was earlier this season, June 28-29. The Orioles last won the World Series in 1983. The Royals last won the World Series in 1985.

The Orioles were not able to lead scoring-wise in the first two games. They were able to battle back to level the score during both games but just couldn’t get enough runs to take the lead  either time.

Game 3 of the series is Monday night. It will be a matchup between Wei-Yin Chen, who was roughed up during the ALDS, and Jeremy Guthrie, who will make his first career postseason start. The Royals are looking to take a 3-0 advantage in the series and get them one more win away from attending the World Series.

No other LCS team has been able to come back from being down two games and going on the road. Maybe the Orioles will be the first.
