Mookie Betts Posts Historic Numbers Against Yankees
While the big news was that Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge and the rest of the New York Yankees were in town, baseball fans were entertained on Tuesday night by Mookie Betts & Company.
As the Red Sox and Yankees renewed baseball’s best rivalry, Betts put on a performance of a lifetime. Boston routed the Yankees 14-1. Betts put an exclamation mark on his 4-for-5 night with a sixth inning gram slam. It was part of nine runs the Red Sox scored that inning.

Betts became the second MLB player with four hits, five runs scored and four runs batted in against the Yankees. The only other player is Ken Griffey Jr. who accomplished the feat in May of 1996.
Boston pitching ace Chris Sale said that Betts continues to do unbelievable things.
The Red Sox with the win are now 9-1 and off to their best ever start as a franchise. Betts is a huge reason for the great start. Through 10 games, Betts is batting .432. He leads all of baseball with five doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, and 13 runs scored. He has on-base percentage of .533, a slugging percentage of .730 and just three strikeouts.

Betts has been Boston’s all-around best player the last three seasons. In 2016. he finished second in the American League MVP voting.
What is surprising to many is Betts is putting up all these number from the leadoff spot.
On Tuesday, Mookie Betts opened his hitting with a double in the first and scored on a single by Hanley Ramirez. In the second he singled. He walked in the fourth. He doubled during the sixth and after Boston batted around, the Red Sox leadoff hitter belted a Chasen Shreve pitch over the Green Monster for his ground slam.
Versus the Yankees, Betts became the first Red Sox player in club history with at least four hits, four runs scored and four runs batted in from the leadoff post. His sixth inning grand slam was the first by a hitter for the Red Sox against New York since September of 2013.
The 1-2-3 hitters for Boston – Betts, Andrew Benintendi and Ramirez ended the game on Tuesday 8-for-9, four base on balls, eight runs and nine runs batted in.
