NBA Rumors: Dwyane Wade May Leave Miami Heat In Free Agency
After 12 seasons with the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade may be headed elsewhere this summer by opting out of the final deal with his contract with the only team he’s ever played for in the NBA. Wade and the Heat are currently in discussions on a three-year contract extension, but both sides aren’t exactly seeing eye-to-eye.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the contract negotiations between Miami and Wade are ongoing:
The Heat and Dwyane Wade have been discussing potential resolutions of his contract situation and there’s a significant difference in what both parties believe he should be paid for the next three seasons, according to multiple sources.
At 33, Wade is on the downside of his career in the league and struggles to stay healthy every year. The veteran guard has yet to play a full 82 games in a single season during his time in Miami and has missed at least 20 games or more in his last two seasons.
Although Wade won’t be able to shake the injury-prone label, the three-time NBA champion will be an attractive free agent to teams with cap space this summer. The real question will be whether Wade will get paid what he’s looking for on the open market.
The superstar will provide veteran leadership and a solid option at the shooting guard position for any team he may ultimately sign with, but he comes with injury concerns. The rumors will begin to swirl as Wade approaching the deadline to opt out of his deal on June 29. There will definitely be interested teams reaching out to Wade, but there’s no telling where he might end up and how much he might make over the next three years.
