Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams will undergo surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left wrist, the team announced Friday.
The injury occurred after Williams fell to the ground after a flagrant foul by New York Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson. He landed on his left wrist, resulting in a severe perilunate dislocation.
The Bulls had hoped Willaims could play a significant role in his second campaign. However his injury effectively puts the team without a significant frontcourt piece. It’s been a rough go around the last several weeks. Williams missed most of the preseason due to a sprained ankle.

In five games played, Williams averaged 6.6 points and 2.2 rebounds while shooting 56.5% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc. The loss puts more pressure on the rest of the roster to push forward with their veteran-laden starters led by DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, Lonzo Ball, and Nikola Vucevic.
Chicago holds enough firepower to push toward vying for a playoff spot. It will need its star talent to guide the way. The Bulls have the pieces in place to make a strong push to capture their first postseason berth in five years.
