NBA Week One
Tuesday night the NBA regular season tipped off with the world champion San Antonio Spurs hosted the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Houston Rockets.
The Spurs were able to win against the Mavs when Tony Parker made a clutch shot in the fourth quarter with only 1:07Â remaining on the clock. Parker had a total of 23 points in the game followed by Manu Gionbili with 20 and Tim Duncan also earned his 14th double-double in a season opener. That is the most by any player in NBA history.
Rockets and Lakers had quite an interesting first regular season game as well. Lakers rookie, Julius Randle had to leave the game in the fourth quarter strapped to a stretcher with a broken leg, a sobering beginning to what could’ve been an amazing rookie season. Randle was a seventh overall pick from Kentucky.
James Harden totaled 32 points and the Rockets dominated the Lakers, 108-90. In Kobe Bryant’s first game back following his injury-plagued season, he only totaled 19 points.
Next up in the first week of the NBA regular season is the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night in New York. The Bulls are supposedly the team in the Eastern Conference that could keep the Cavaliers from winning an NBA title. The Cavaliers are the favorite by Vegas to take home the NBA title this year. Cleveland starts their regular season against the New York Knicks Thursday night.
OKC Thunder will begin the first six weeks of their season without Kevin Durant and will play the Portland Trailblazers on Wednesday night. The next night, the Thunder will play the LA Clippers which is the team that could challenge the Spurs the most in the Western Conference.
