Undefeated Tide Rolls Over Tennessee in Tuscaloosa
Last week Tennessee knocked off South Carolina with a last second field goal as time expired, and nearly beat Georgia the week before, Â but were unable to build on that momentum against unbeaten Alabama on Saturday.
The Vols fell back to Earth with a big thud in Tuscaloosa, as the Tide Rolled over them en route to a 45-10 victory.
In the first half Tennessee looked about as good as they did against Oregon last month—in that they looked terrible and the game was already over as the players headed to the locker room down 35-0 at halftime.
Nick Saban kept his starters in through the third quarter, but most were on the bench midway through the fourth. Senior quarterback A.J. McCarron had a typically solid and productive day, going 19-of-27 for 275 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Bama had five players rush for a 203 yards, among them was sophomore running back T.J. Yeldon who had three touchdowns against the Vols. The Tide dominated the time of possession by nearly eight minutes and converted 7-of-11 third downs.
Tennessee was moderately efficient on the ground, particularly in the second half, but really couldn’t get anything going against that vaunted Bama defense.
Vols quarterback Justin Worley, who injured his thumb last week, seriously struggled early with two interceptions and was eventually replaced by freshman Josh Dobbs.
Although Dobbs didn’t exactly light it up, he may have shown enough to steal the job from Worley, who has never impressed as a starter.
Next up for Alabama is a showdown with SEC division rival LSU next week, which will be played in Tuscaloosa, and then their season finale against a suddenly formidable Auburn.
As for Tennessee…well…let’s just say it doesn’t look good for this Vols team down the stretch.
