2021 NFL Draft: 8 teams that should draft a quarterback
The 2021 NFL Draft is loaded with first-round quarterback talents. Which teams should take them? Here’s eight who could consider it.
8. Detroit Lions
Jared Goff is in town for the next few years, but if Detroit absolutely falls in love with a prospect, the Lions could decide to take him and stash the kid for a year before competing with Goff. It’s not likely, but certainly possible for a team looking to rebuild.
7. Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons are essentially locked into Matt Ryan for one more year, and then they can start thinking about the future should they choose. Picking No. 4 overall in the 2021 NFL draft, Atlanta has the option of taking a replacement who can sit for his rookie year.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh isn’t going to get Trevor Lawrence, and the notion of Zach Wilson, Justin Fields or Trey Lance is also a long shot without a major, major trade. Picking No. 24 overall, the Steelers could be looking at Alabama’s Mac Jones as a viable option.
5. San Francisco 49ers
Jimmy Garoppolo has been both underwhelming and constantly hurt. The 49ers could move off him at any time for a minimal cost, so would San Francisco consider his replacement at the No. 12 slot?
4. Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have reportedly been in on other quarterbacks this offseason, and with the No. 8 pick in the first round, could be looking to upgrade over veteran Teddy Bridgewater. Lance would be an ideal fit here along with Fields, who both combine elite athleticism with fantastic arms.

3. New England Patriots
Have you watched the 2020 Patriots? There’s no ability to throw or move the ball. New England is up the proverbial creek without some help at quarterback, as Cam Newton didn’t look like an answer in his maiden voyage under Bill Belichick.
2. New York Jets
Now we get to the pair atop the draft. If the Jets don’t roll with Sam Darnold, they’re certainly taking a quarterback here. It would be stunning if Lawrence were available, but general manager Joe Douglas will have the ability to take anybody else at No. 2 overall.
1. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville has the easiest job in the draft. Write down “Trevor Lawrence” and start celebrating. Lawrence is the most-obvious pick the draft has seen since Andrew Luck went No. 1 overall to the Indianapolis Colts in 2012. The Jaguars need a franchise quarterback in the worst way, and they cash in here.
