5 NFL teams that should go all-in come 2019

The Los Angeles Rams tried to win a Super Bowl this season by going all in. Sure, they came up a win short, but the effort is impossible to ignore. Los Angeles traded for Brandin Cooks, Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, surrendering draft picks. The Rams also signed Ndamukong Suh and then traded more draft currency for Dante Fowler Jr. at the trade deadline.

So which teams should do something similar come free agency and the draft? Here are five:

5. Pittsburgh Steelers

This will be tricky for the Steelers, who have as many questions as answers. Still, they need to be on this list considering the following: Pittsburgh has a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Ben Roehtlisberger who just won the passing crown despite being 37 years old. The Steelers have James Conner and JuJu Smith-Schuster to go with a terrific offensive line and Super Bowl-winning head coach. If they want to get the best out of Roehtlisberger’s remaining years, the time is now to be aggressive.

4. Los Angeles Chargers

Very similar to the Steelers, the Chargers have an aging quarterback who they must take advantage of. Philip Rivers is playing out the final few years of his career, and while Los Angeles already has a terrific roster around him, general manager Tom Telesco would be wise to move for free agents he covets and rookies in the draft that can make an immediate impact. With the Chiefs already posing a huge threat in their own division, the Chargers must do everything they can to help Rivers finally get to a Super Bowl.

3. Houston Texans

The Texans aren’t going to have Deshaun Watson on a rookie contract much longer, with the youngster able to negotiate a new pact after this year if he wishes. Regardless of that, Houston has some veteran stars on defense in the persons of J.J. Watt, Johnathan Joseph and Whitney Mercilus. With that group buttressed by young talent such as DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller, the time has come for the front office to get busy in free agency and provide Watson with an elite, deep roster.

2. Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers is 35 years old but still playing an elite brand of football. After suffering through the end of the Mike McCarthy era, it’s time for the Packers to spend significant dollars in free agency and then use those two first-round picks to land impact players from the jump. With Rodgers, Green Bay can instantly be a title contender with a good offseason.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

This is obvious, right? Kansas City has some cap space, a 23-year-old MVP at quarterback and the knowledge that his bill comes due soon. The Chiefs should be copying what the Rams did a year ago and make a litany of moves, especially while owning three picks in the top 100 of the draft. Kansas City hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 1969, but that could change with an aggressive mindset.
