Aaron Rodgers opens up about massive pay cut with Jets

The New York Jets are a team that has made quite a few headlines as of late. The team was able to bring in four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers to take over as the starting quarterback.

Along with adding Rodgers into the mix in the Big Apple, the team has benefited from the added attention as. The Jets have also been able to add a few other notable pieces, like Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. The superstar’s appeal doesn’t stop there, as the team could be on the verge of adding another big piece to the championship puzzle.

Rodgers recently agreed to take a massive pay cut with the team to free up $35 million. As a result, the Jets can put more talent around their new superstar. The veteran quarterback admitted that is the reason for the pay cut, as it gives the team some flexibility to add star players, as he told Peter King of Football in America via Pro Football Talk.

“Big names move at the trade deadline now,” Rodgers said. “I wanted to make sure that if somebody valuable came available that we’d be able to get him.”

Although the NFL trade deadline is way down the line, with the 2023 NFL season yet to get underway, the Jets could be on the cusp of signing four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook.

Over the weekend, Cook visited the team and spent some time with the coaching staff and players as New York tried to convince him to sign with the team.

As of right now, it’s uncertain whether Cook will sign with the Jets. However, they seem to have the inside track compared to other interested parties.
