Bears sticking with rookie Caleb Williams as starting QB
With four wins in the first six games of the 2024 NFL season, the Chicago Bears looked like a team that might be better than expected during Caleb Williams’ rookie season in the Windy City. Things continued to point in the right direction until fellow rookie Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders pulled off a miracle a few weeks ago with a hail mary to beat the Bears in the closing seconds.
The Bears haven’t recovered from the hail mary touchdown pass Daniels, as the team has now lost three straight games, with Williams looking like he’s regressing rather than improving.

Things got so bad after Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots that some wondered if Williams would get benched, but that doesn’t appear to be the case, according to head coach Matt Eberflus via Courtney Cronin of ESPN.
“Caleb is our starter,” Eberflus said.
Although the rookie quarterback will keep his job as the starter under center moving forward, Eberflus appears to be prepared to make some changes moving forward, which he chose not to disclose after losing to the Patriots via ESPN.
“There will be changes, adjustments, being made,” Eberflus said. “I’m not going to disclose those right now. I’m not at that point in the process. Monday is a long day in terms of the evaluation of everything, in terms of lineups, in terms of the coaching, in terms of how we need to do better in that coaching and in that communication in-game, during the game, after the game, prior to the game. It’s important that we take time to make those decisions and make the right decisions that’s for the Bears, best for the Bears going forward this week and going forward into the future.”
It’ll be interesting to see if the Bears can turn things around and salvage their season or if things continue to head in the wrong direction, resulting in the team missing the NFL playoffs and having many questions to answer during the offseason.
