Broncos Sign Cornerback Bryce Callahan for Three Years
The Denver Broncos and cornerback Bryce Callahan have agreed to a three-year $21 million deal. By joining the Broncos, Callahan reunites with Vic Fangio the new coach at Denver and the former defensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears.
The contract for $21 million includes a guaranteed sum of $10 million.
The cornerback’s season in 2018 came to an end in December after breaking his left foot during Chicago’s 15-6 victory in a Sunday night game versus the Los Angeles Rams.
Callahan, who is 27, became a valuable part of the secondary with the Bears over the last three years. Last season Callahan started 10 games, posted 45 tackles, six pass breakups, two interceptions and two quarterback sacks. In 2017, Callahan had two interceptions as well.
Callahan was undrafted in 2015 after playing for the Rice Owls.
Callahan will join a Denver Broncos team that finished the 2018 NFL regular season 6-10 in third place in the AFC West.
The Broncos have added cornerback Kareem Jackson as well to their secondary. Jackson played the last nine seasons with the Houston Texans. Jackson will be 31 during the 2019 season but his experience will be invaluable to the Broncos secondary.
The additions to the secondary were much needed as Denver had three members of this past season’s secondary who were free agents.
