Browns restructure star RB Nick Chubb’s contract

The Cleveland Browns remained busy this offseason after reworking star running back Nick Chubb’s contract to keep him in place.

The Browns reportedly reduced his salary cap hit from $15.85 million to $6.275 million for the 2024 season, which he could still make up to $12.2 million depending on his performance.

Before the contract adjustment, Chubb’s base salary was $11.8 million, which was the final year of his contract.

The Pro Bowler is coming off a season that ended abruptly after suffering a torn MCL and damage to his ACL. He underwent separate surgeries as a result of those injuries.

The injury occurred to his left knee, which he had surgically repaired after tearing his PCL, MCL, and LCL in 2015 at Georgia.

Chubb recorded 170 rushing yards on 28 carries along with 21 receiving yards on four receptions in two games before suffering the season-ending injury.

Chubb has been a strong source of stability for the Browns, posting four straight 1,000-rushing-yard campaigns, topped by a career-best 1,525 rushing yards in 2022. Over that span, he earned four Pro Bowl selections and a Second-Team All-Pro nod (2022).

The 28-year-old will be heading into a crucial 2024 campaign that will play a significant factor in determining his next contract, and more importantly his long-term future in Cleveland.

He will need to showcase he can return to form as the same player, who is averaging 5.3 yards per carry and is one of the league’s best running backs.

The pressure is on Chubb to prove his worth in Cleveland.
