Bruce Irvin told Bobby Wagner he wanted to be back with the Seahawks

Since leaving the Seattle Seahawks after the 2015 season, outside linebacker Bruce Irvin has bounced around the NFL.

That has led to him receiving another opportunity to come back to Seattle this offseason. As a result he agreed to a one-year deal with the franchise. According to Curtis Crabtree of Pro Football Talk, Irvin voiced that he has been long waiting for the chance to get back to the Seahawks.

“After the Philly game, actually, I sent Bobby (Wagner) a text while they were on the plane saying, ‘I wish I was on that plane with you all. I just wanted to come back,” Irvin told reporters on Tuesday.

Irvin spent the first four years of his career with the franchise, where he became a key cog on their defensive line. That saw him rack up 22.0 sacks, four forced fumbles, and 133 tackles over that span.

Following that tenure, he signed with the then-Oakland Raiders on a four-year, $37 million deal. He spent 2 1/2 seasons with the Raiders before being cut, which he later signed with the Atlanta Falcons to finish the 2018 campaign.

Irvin played the 2019 season with the Carolina Panthers, where he racked up 8.5 sacks in 13 games played. He had now has an opportunity to see his career go full circle where it all began.

The Seahawks will depend on him to provide his pass-rushing ability, especially if Jadeveon Clowney doesn’t return to the franchise. Beyond that, it’s a chance to help the Seahawks make a special run in 2020.
