Buccaneers clear the air about the Devin White situation
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading into a year of uncertainty after Tom Brady’s retirement after 23 seasons.
The lack of traction in extension contract talks has led star linebacker Devin White to request a trade. However, general manager Jason Licht has voiced that the Buccaneers have no intention of trading the Pro Bowler.

“We all have all the respect in the world for Devin,” Licht said via ESPN. “He’s done some great things for us and we look forward to more from him in the future. … If he has the type of year we think he’s capable of, we can hopefully put this to rest and everybody’s happy.
“This isn’t something I’m holding against Devin. I still feel he’s a tremendous person. I would never say he’s not the type of teammate we want because of this.”
White is in the fifth year of his rookie deal, where he will make $11.7 million in 2023. He has served as a key part of the Buccaneers’ defense since his arrival behind his versatility.

The 25-year-old has recorded north of 120 tackles in each of the last three seasons while posting 20.5 career sacks. He is reportedly looking to secure an annual salary between $18 million and $20 million, which would put him among the highest-paid at his position.
The Buccaneers still have plenty of time to work out a long-term deal ahead of next season. Until then, it will be a situation that will be monitored closely in Tampa Bay.
