CeeDee Lamb claims he was ‘very surprised’ to be drafted by Cowboys
In the first round of the 2020 NFL draft, there were plenty of surprises to go around on Thursday night.
One of which was the Dallas Cowboys deciding to use their 17th overall pick to take former Oklahoma standout wide receiver Ceedee Lamb. It was a move that Lamb voiced on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that it caught him off guard, but one that he has quickly embraced the opportunity to play for the Cowboys.
“Very surprised,” Lamb said. “Honestly, I couldn’t see this coming but I’m glad it did. . . . I didn’t really have much conversations with them. I met with them in February at the [Combine]. Other than that, there wasn’t really much going on between us.”
There wasn’t much chatter around the possibility that the Cowboys would snag a wide receiver in the first round. However, Dallas likely felt it was too much to pass up on the chance to take a promising wideout to add to the mix. That opportunity had been laid out with the Las Vegas Raiders taking Henry Ruggs III, then the Denver Broncos a few selections later picking Jerry Jeudy.
It was widely anticipated that Jeudy and Lamb would be off the board by the time the Cowboys were picking at the 17th overall spot. The Oklahoma product now has the opportunity to become a critical piece of the puzzle in the passing game alongside Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup to potentially give the Cowboys one of the best wide receivers corps in the league.
