Cowboys going with ‘more conservative’ approach with Dak Prescott

Since Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott returned to the practice field, the Dallas Cowboys continue to monitor his health.

The precautionary steps ramped up this past week after Prescott suffered a shoulder injury. According to Pro Football Talk, head coach Mike McCarthy voiced that the team is taking a “conservative” approach to handling the injury.

Per multiple reporters, McCarthy said the team has “taken a step back” and opted for a “more conservative” approach in order to make sure the shoulder issue does not develop into a bigger problem. Given the timing of the game, it seems likely that a decision on Prescott’s ability to throw will be pushed to next week.

The Cowboys are operating purely from the mindset to avoid any possible setbacks with Prescott. He’s the key to the team’s offensive success and Super Bowl chances next season.

Dallas will go whatever precautionary route necessary to avoid him suffering another injury that will keep him sidelined. It will likely mean that his availability in the preseason will become decreased as a result.

The Cowboys’ handling of the situation is already scaled up due to him returning from a compound ankle fracture. The injury prematurely ended his 2020 season. Aside from the shoulder injury, Prescott continues to progress forward in training camp without any physical limitations in his ankle.

It’s simply the Cowboys wanting to avoid the shoulder injury from lingering on further than it should into the preseason or regular season. Expect Dallas to operate anything involving Prescott with the 2021 season entirely in mind.
