In the aftermath of star running back DeMarco Murray leaving town for the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys were able to bring in veteran back Darren McFadden from the Oakland Raiders. McFadden has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with Dallas, according to Todd Archer of ESPN:

The Dallas Cowboys have moved quickly to fill at least part of the hole left by DeMarco Murray’s departure by agreeing to a two-year deal with Darren McFadden, according to a source.

The deal is worth up to $5.85 million and includes a $200,000 bonus, the source said.

McFadden has seen a steady decline in his numbers across the board ever since having a breakout season in 2010 with the Raiders. The Arkansas product racked up a career-high 1,664 yards from scrimmage in 2010 and scored a total of 13 touchdowns.

Since that breakout year in Oakland, the former fourth overall pick has struggled to return to form with seemingly endless injury issues. McFadden plays well when healthy, but he’s rarely been able to stay on the field for the Raiders.

Last season, McFadden played in all 16 games for the Raiders, but in a diminished role. McFadden started in only 12 of those games rushing for 534 yards and two touchdowns.

Fortunately for McFadden, the veteran back has a shot at bouncing back with a vengeance in Dallas with the benefit of playing behind arguably the best offensive line in the NFL. Also, having quarterback Tony Romo and quite possibly the best wide receiver in the league downfield in Dez Bryant will only increase his chances of getting back to form as a force to be reckoned with out of the backfield in Dallas.
