Davante Adams admits it ‘hurt’ to see Raiders release Derek Carr

The Las Vegas Raiders are dealing with lingering trade chatter around star wide receiver Davante Adams.

However, Adams shot down any noise concerning a desire for a move from the Raiders before Monday’s trade deadline. During a recent interview on The Rich Eisen Show, he revealed that it “hurt” not having Derek Carr around to continue their tenure together in Las Vegas.

“I mean, I came here to play with Derek. I can’t say I would have been here if he wasn’t here,” Adams said. “That kind of put the stamp on everything for me. It was a series of things that led to why I ended up being here and playing with my quarterback, who I had a lot of success with in college. That factored in heavily for me. So it definitely took a toll on me when he left, but one part about this game that you and I both know is people come in and out every day.

“It definitely hurt not having him around, but you also, after being in it for so long, you get used to how it goes, and you wish him good luck. And also, it was good for him because he would have to play basically perfectly to win over the fans and keep everybody happy, so it was good for him to get a new start, too.”

Carr played a significant role in the Raiders, earning a chance to acquire Adams before last season. The two hold a strong bond through their time together at Fresno State.

However, Carr’s continued struggles to push the Raiders toward sustained success led to the two parting ways last offseason. As a result, he was let go from his contract. The former Pro Bowler chose to sign with the New Orleans Saints in free agency.

Meanwhile, Adams is in the second year of his five-year, $140,00 deal.
