Dolphins, Jets actually has tons of storylines

The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets are horrendous. Almost comically so.

Hell, definitely comical if you root for any of the other 30 NFL franchises. Miami and New York. are a combined 1-13 entering their tilt against each other down on South Beach come Sunday afternoon. TheDolphins have been talked about as one of the worst teams in league history,  giving the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and 2017 Cleveland Browns a strong run for the title.

New York, meanwhile,  is almost even ore embarrassing. Despite what Miami’s brass will publicly say,  it is more than happy to lose this season. It would actually be disappointed to win more than a game or two. After all, this season is a massive tank job designed to completely bottom out, snag the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft, and then take either Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert or Joe Burrow and get a new face of the franchise under center.

The Jets were trying to win this season. New York believed it found the right man to help second-year quarterback Sam Darnold begin his ascent into stardom when it hired Adam Gase to be head coach. Gase, of course, had just been fired by the Dolphins after failing to get that franchise on track, and now he goes to Miami this weekend with the sole purpose of not making the Jets a national laughingstock on Monday.

Yet, that could very well be the case. New York is not only awful at 1-6, but it’s falling apart by the hour. The team reportedly was in deep talks with the Dallas Cowboys to trade star safety Jamal Adams before holding onto him. Now, Adams won’t meet with general manager Joe Douglas. Adams wasn’t the only big name on the trading block for Gang Green, as Douglas was supposedly also pedaling running back Le’Veon Bell. Bell confirmed as much after Tuesday’s deadline, stating he knew the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs among others were in on the bidding.

All told, two teams playing for nothing in terms of playoff picture may have the most storylines going on Sunday. Miami is 0-7 and rolling toward a winless season. If it wins, that means its former coach, and current embattled Jets boss, is the one losing to the Dolphins. New York also has two stars who know the team was willing to move them, and now they have to play ball.

Also, if the Jets lose, they slide ahead of the Dolphins in the draft order. Amazing.

Enjoy the game.
