Earl Thomas will not attend Seahawks mandatory minicamp

Thomas is entering the final year of his four-year, $40 million deal. This has led to him being involved in plenty of trade chatter. That has only further blurred what could lie ahead of him in Seattle. With all that in mind, the 29-year-old has announced on Twitter that he will not attend mandatory minicamp. He took the decision because of the current state of the situation. (h/t ESPN)

In a message posted on Twitter, Thomas emphasized that he wants to “remain a Seahawk for the rest of my career.” But Thomas, who is entering the final year of a four-year, $40 million deal, also said he wants to “have certainty in regards to the upcoming years of my career.”

“I also believe that based on my production over the last 8 years that I’ve earned the right to have this taken care of as soon as possible,” Thomas wrote. “I want to have certainty in regards to the upcoming years of my career.”

Throughout much of this process, Thomas has made it clear that he wants to remain with the Seahawks. However, the team hasn’t expressed those same desires. This has seen him being involved in numerous trade rumors ahead of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Thomas is still playing at an elite level that has made him one of the top safeties in the league. This lack of true commitment from the Seahawks along with the expected holdout could see things shift quickly with the team either working out a deal with him or look to move him.
Simply put, there may be much more to come on this front on both sides in the coming weeks ahead.
