Former Patriots star Rob Gronkowski says rumors of his return can be put to rest
Since making the expected decision to retire after the 2018 season capped off by winning Super Bowl 53, former New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski has faced with constant questions about a possible return.
Through the first several weeks of the offseason, this noise continued to remain as the Patriots appear to be open to him making a return for his 10th campaign if he wanted to. With that in mind, Gronkowski has touched upon that possibility by stating that he has no desire to make his return to the field, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.
“Oh man! Whatever I say, it doesn’t matter. It will always be crazy out there, but you can put them to rest,” Gronkowski said with a smile while taking part in the One Mission Buzz Off for Kids at Gillette Stadium. “I’m feeling good. [In a] good place. It’s great to be back here.”
Since stepping away, Gronkowski has continued to stay with the same stance through all the chatter. He appears to be happy in retirement, but that talk will remain as long as the chance is there for him to make a comeback.
The Patriots look to have found some help at the spot with Gronkowski out of the picture by bringing in Ben Watson out of retirement, and Matt Lacosse via a trade. Granted, these players won’t quite equate up to the All-Pro level of production it does show that they have moved on a bit with their roster.
Ultimately, the only way Gronkowski can prove he’s firm in his decision is by sticking with it.
