Giants rookie Daniel Jones talks about his nickname “Danny Dimes”
The New York Giants grabbed their first of the season in a thrilling comeback over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3 action.
This saw rookie quarterback Daniel Jones make his first start where he put up a strong effort that fueled the Giants to grab an impressive win on the road. His performance helped bring about a new nickname for him being touted as “Danny Dimes,” to which he has the approval of it, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
“Yeah, I’ve heard it a little bit more recently,” said Jones, who exploded onto the NFL scene Sunday with a first start that included four touchdowns, one of which was the game winner with less than two minutes remaining in a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “I don’t know. It’s all right, I guess. There could be worse nicknames.”
In his first career start, Jones looked quite poised by stepping up in the moment as he completed 23-of-36 passes for 336 yards with two touchdowns in the contest. He also showed a strong ability to make plays with his legs when needed as he rushed for 28 yards on four attempts with two touchdowns.
Much of this production came in the second half as the Giants trailed by 18 points at the half. They outscored the Buccaneers 22-3 in the second half.
Regardless of the nickname, Jones has shown that he is ready for the challenge that will see his next start against the Washington Redskins, who are looking for their first win of the season.
