Jaguars’ Tom Coughlin blasts RBs Leonard Fournette, T.J. Yeldon
A year after coming one game short of the Super Bowl, the Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of issues to address. Jacksonville will miss the NFL playoffs this season after going 5-11.
Following the loss in their season finale against the division rival Houston Texans, the team’s executive vice president, Tom Coughlin, felt compelled to speak out about running backs T.J. Yeldon and Leonard Fournette. Coughlin was not happy about the behavior the two players displayed during the loss to the Texans, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN.
“I am disappointed in the behavior today from T.J. Yeldon and Leonard Fournette,” Coughlin said. “They were disrespectful, selfish and their behavior was unbecoming that of a professional football player.”
With Coughlin venting his displeasure with the two players, it’ll be interesting to see if it impacts their future with the team. Fournette is obviously the cornerstone of the offense, but he’s dealt with numerous injury issues in a short time he’s been with Jacksonville. Yeldon, however, will be a free agent and will almost certainly be headed elsewhere.
Fourtnette missed eight games this season for the Jaguars due to injuries and for disciplinary reasons. There’s no doubting his talent and what might be a promising future, but the Jaguars may look to go in a different direction if he proves to be more trouble than he’s worth.
In eight games during the 2018 campaign, Fournette rushed for 439 yards and five touchdowns. He also caught 22 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown.
