Jason Garrett says Cowboys’ recent moves ‘irrelevant’ to Dez Bryant’s status
The Dallas Cowboys have one major decision to make before the NFL offseason is over. The team has made a few moves in NFL free agency with a few of them making many believe Dez Bryant’s time in Dallas could be over.
The team brought in Allen Hurns recently to help bolster the receiving corps. The addition of Hurns has led to speculation that Bryant’s replacement has been brought in. The release of the star wideout is seemingly inevitable. Head coach Jason Garrett claims these moves have nothing to do with Bryant’s future, via ESPN’s Todd Archer.
“We love Dez Bryant,†Garrett said. “Dez has been a great player for us for a long time. Any speculation about his contract or anything like that to me is irrelevant relative to the recent signings that we’ve made.â€
Garrett maintains there’s a healthy relationship with Bryant and the new wide receivers have nothing to do with his future. Although, it’s hard to believe with the team on the hook for his $12.5 million salary next season.
NFC Futures
Bryant hasn’t exactly lived up to the expectations of his lucrative contract. The team may very well part ways with him if they don’t want to pay that number in order to move forward Hurns as the top option downfield.
With or without Bryant, the Cowboys should be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC next season. Dallas is still a very talented young team with a bright future, but there appears to be no indication as to whether Bryant will be part of that future moving forward.
