Lions Hire Jim Caldwell, Fans Of Other Teams React Negatively On Twitter
On Tuesday the Detroit Lions announced Jim Caldwell as their next head coach. The reaction on Twitter was quite mixed, with fans running the gamut from elated to trepidatious to appalled.
Of course, that’s to be expected after such a disastrous season. No direction is going to feel quite right after that epic late season collapse.
What is less expected is the strangely hostile reaction from non-Lions fans around the NFL. Caldwell seems like a fairly innocuous and safe hire for Detroit, but that didn’t stop people from teeing off on the guy.
Here’s a little sampling:
Because nothing says scrub like slowly working your way up through the ranks over three decades, having success nearly every step of the way. No evidence this guy is a Lions fan.
Except he’s been continually employed since being shipping out of Indy, along with Peyton Manning.
Oh, and he just got another head coaching position.
And a big LOL to Bears fan Dale Skalba. We all know those Chicago teams—outside the Blackhawks—have been absolute juggernauts in recent years.
A Redskins fan mocking a Lions fan with regard to coaching and overall badness.
Allow me to introduce you both: Pot, meet kettle. Kettle, meet pot.
This one is pretty reasonable.
No needless name calling and the Ravens offense was terrible last season.
Hey Lions! Your hire is making Michigan beer connoisseur Nicholas Perez sleepy.
Oh what’s that? You don’t care at all? Oh okay.
And to think, Kid Rock didn’t even make it past the first round of interviews. I guess the Ron Warner endorsement just isn’t what it used to be. But c’mon Lions! We’re talking about a guy who once saw Mike Ditka at a bar! Also, he’s a Bears fan.

A croquet-playing Colts fan doesn’t think Jim Caldwell is qualified to coach children.
That sounds about right.
- Literally have no idea what to say to that.
Oh, I get it dude from Houston!
Jim Caldwell and Kwame Kilpatrick are the same because they’re black!
Thanks for clearing that up.
It’s nice that Cowboys fans can still find reasons to laugh at others, since most of the sports world is usually laughing at them.
Well, they are the Lions.
But just to be fair, Saint Peter is from Baltimore and likely just a bitter Ravens fan.
It’s nice Joe Gawron feels better about being a Bills fan,
but last time I checked they have the same number of Super Bowls as the Lions.
Yet another Colts fan. Still wondering what they’re so damn bitter about.
Last I checked, things worked out pretty well for them.
Anyway! Thanks for doing your research, Geoff Mehl of The Michigan Journal.Â
