Mavs’ Anthony Davis may miss considerably time with hand injury

Dallas Mavericks star big man Anthony Davis is out with ligament damage in his left hand that could necessitate surgery, which would sideline him for several months.

Davis suffered the injury in Thursday night’s loss to the Utah Jazz when he was defending Lauri Markkanen on a drive to the basket. He is seeking multiple opinions to see if surgery will be required.

The 10-time All-Star has struggled with injuries throughout much of the season, missing 18 out of the Mavericks’ first 38 games due to calf and groin injuries. In 20 games played, he is averaging a double-double with 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds with 1.7 blocks while shooting 50.6 percent from the floor and 27.0 percent from beyond the arc.

Davis is set to earn $58.5 million next season and holds a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 campaign. The Mavericks are reportedly exploring potential trade scenarios for the star big man in hopes of netting a significant haul that would further stabilize their long-term future around promising rookie Cooper Flagg.
