NFL 2020: Ranking divisions from worst to best
The NFL has been shaken up due to some big moves and the coronavirus pandemic. We examine the power shifts in each division.
8. AFC East
With the New England Patriots now starting Jarrett Stidham instead of Tom Brady, this division is terrible. The Buffalo Bills are the frontrunner, and Josh Allen is far from a sure thing.
7. AFC South
Who is the best team? It could be the Indianapolis Colts, but they’re relying on a 38-year-old Philip Rivers coming off a terrible season. The Jacksonville Jaguars are terrible, the Houston Texans are Deshaun Watson and little else, and the Tennessee Titans are hoping Ryan Tannehill can somehow keep the magic going.

6. NFC East
The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys are very talented. The Washington Redskins and New York Giants are two of the worst teams in the sport. Last year, it took a minor miracle for even one team to have a winning record. It’s tough to rank this division any higher.
5. AFC West
This is all about the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City is the defending Super Bowl champion and the best team in 2020 on paper. However, the rest of the division is coming off seasons of losing records. Many love the Denver Broncos, but is Drew Lock a can’t-miss? No. The Las Vegas Raiders have talent but a shaky defense. Then there’s the Los Angeles Chargers, who are stacked but have major quarterback issues.
4. NFC North
Only the Detroit Lions had a losing record in the NFC North last year. Yes, even the Chicago Bears finished with eight wins. However, this is about the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers. Those two teams are both legitimate contenders in the NFC, and should make this one of the tougher divisions in the NFL this season.

3. AFC North
The Cincinnati Bengals are the worst team, and they’re vastly-improved with quarterback Joe Burrow at the helm. Cincinnati won’t stop anybody, but it’ll score. The Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers are both strong candidates to reach the postseason after missing the playoffs in 2019, while the Baltimore Ravens are the favorite to upend the Chiefs in the Super Bowl chase.
2. NFC South
Outside of the Carolina Panthers, this is a loaded division. The Atlanta Falcons are a legitimate sleeper with a dynamic offense and a much-improved defense over the final eight games of last season. Meanwhile, Tom Brady has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers thinking Super Bowl, while the New Orleans Saints are the most complete team in the NFC.
1. NFC West
There’s not a bad team in the bunch. The Arizona Cardinals are the biggest sleeper in football. The Los Angeles Rams are two years removed from the Super Bowl. The Seattle Seahawks are loaded and led by Russell Wilson, and the San Francisco 49ers won the conference last year. Great group.
