NFL commissioner Roger Goodell being ‘extremely thorough’ in Patriots investigation
It has been several weeks since the entire situation around the New England Patriots being involved in another scandal surfaced.
There has been much fallout publicly with additional reports that set out more clarity on the matter, but the NFL has yet to push out a punishment on the Patriots. Commissioner Roger Goodell finally spoke on the matter on Wednesday, stating that the league is going a thorough investigation on the situation. (H/T Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk)
“Our responsibility is to make sure we’re being extremely thorough,” Goodell said. “We’re going to get it right and when we come to a conclusion we’ll certainly make sure that people are aware of it.”
The NFL will likely extend this investigation through the next few weeks at the very least to get some breathing room away from the Super Bowl. It’s something that they want to get tucked away in an orderly manner to avoid the talk around the matter from lingering on any further into the offseason.
There is a strong expectation that the Patriots will be punished in some of fashion by the league. The evidence is pretty damning as there is recovered footage of the alleged violation of them filming the Cincinnati Bengals’ sideline for several minutes.
New England has been completely compliant with the matter, which has should the situation move quicker through the investigation. At some point in time soon, there should be clarity on what type of punishment the Patriots will receive from the NFL.
