NFL power rankings: Top 5 NFC teams

The NFC is top-heavy going into 2021, and here’s how the top five teams play out in the NFL power rankings.

5. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are the fifth team despite not making the playoffs last year. Why? Because the Chicago Bears might have somehow taken a step back from Mitch Trubisky, the New Orleans Saints lost Drew Brees and the NFC East doesn’t count. Arizona will be fighting it out all year in the NFC West but now has increased firepower with veterans J.J. Watt and Rodney Hudson joining the club. Should be a good one in the desert.

4. Seattle Seahawks

Despite the acrimony coming from Russell Wilson towards the team, it would be stunning if he doesn’t line up in the shotgun come Week 1 for Seattle. With Wilson, the Seahawks are one of the league’s best teams, as evidenced by their 12-4 mark a season ago, winning the NFC West. Seattle also added veteran guard Gabe Jackson in a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, bolstering the unit charged with protection for Wilson. Seattle should be in the mix once more.

3. Los Angeles Rams

Adding Matthew Stafford might have been the single biggest move any team made this offseason. Los Angeles has been trying to win with Jared Goff over the past few years despite getting middling performances out of him. Now, Stafford enters the fold as a star with ample talent and yet plenty to prove. Surrounded by the best talent and coaching of his career, the former No. 1 overall pick out of Georgia should thrive on the west coast.

2. Green Bay Packers

There’s a case where the Packers are ranked as the top team. While they did lose All-Pro center Corey Linsley in free agency to the Los Angeles Chargers, the rest of the team was retained. Green Bay finished with the top seed in the conference last season, going 13-3 and hammering the Rams in the Divisional round before falling to Tom Brady and Co. The Packers have more than enough talent — led by MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers — to win their second Super Bowl in the Rodgers era.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tough to not rank the Super Bowl champs in the top spot of the NFL power rankings. Tampa Bay did the unthinkable and brought back all 22 starters from its title team, and while some of the faces are getting older, the Buccaneers might be the deepest group in the league with excellent coaching and Brady leading the charge.
