NFL Week 2 bets: 5 games to take the underdog
5. Washington Redskins (+6)
The Redskins probably don’t beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, but they played hard (and close) against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. This time, the Redskins are playing at home in front of a charged-up crowd. This game has all the makings of a back-door cover, with Case Keenum fining Vernon Davis for a garbage-time touchdown if needed. The line is simply too high here.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars (+8.5)
Why are the Houston Texans laying 8.5 points? Houston is a good team but certainly not a great one, as evidenced in its loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. If the Saints can sack Deshaun Watson six times and force two trips to the medical tent, what can a front of Josh Allen, Yannick Ngakoue, Marcell Dareus and Calais Campbell do? Plus, quarterback Gardner Minshew looked good against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, going 22-of-25 for 275 yards.
3. Arizona Cardinals (+13)
The Baltimore Ravens beat the Miami Dolphins 59-10 in Week 1. Now, the line I being inflated. Look, there are a few things to remember. The Cardinals have a new offense which only has one week of tape to parse for defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. Secondly, Arizona isn’t good, but the Dolphins are basically a Division II team at this juncture. The Cardinals are going to lose in all likelihood, but look for them to hang around.
2. Seattle Seahawks (+3.5)
The Seahawks are taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field this week, and come in getting more than a field goal. Why, exactly? Pittsburgh was hammered 33-3 by the New England Patriots on Sunday night. Sure, the Seahawks aren’t the Patriots and the Steelers will be home this time around, but Seattle is a very good team. Do we know the Steelers are any good? Take the points.
1. Indianapolis Colts (+3.5)
The Colts are taking on the Tennessee Titans, playing their second consecutive road game to begin the year. While they lost to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1, the game went to overtime despite future Hall of Fame kicker Adam Vinatieri missing three kicks, including an extra point. Indianapolis should have won. Meanwhile, the Titans dispatched the Cleveland Browns, but with a ton of help from three fourth-quarter interceptions and 18 penalties. The line should be lower here. The Colts and Titans are fairly even in terms of talent, and while Tennessee is at home, the extra half-point may make the difference.
