NFL Week 8 lines and schedule: Cases made for the favorites

The Week 8 NFL schedule is packed with great games, specifically on Sunday. Here’s why the favorites can cover their spreads.

Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers (-2.5)

The Falcons can’t help but lose. Just look at the first seven weeks of the season. Carolina is the better team, at home, with the likely return of Christian McCaffrey.

Indianapolis Colts (-2.5) at Detroit Lions

Philip Rivers and Co. are coming off the bye week and now getting an inferior team. Indianapolis’ defense has been one of the best in football, and should handle business in Motown.

Los Angeles Rams (-3.5) at Miami Dolphins

After beating the Bears on Monday night, the Rams must come cross-country. However, they get a rookie making his first NFL start. This could be a training wheels-type game for Miami.

Las Vegas Raiders at Cleveland Browns (-2.5)

The Browns are 5-2 and starting to smell their first postseason berth since 2002. While the Raiders can hang offensively, they offer little resistance on defense to a high-powered Cleveland team.

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers (-6.5)

Why are the Packers only favored by 6.5 points? Minnesota is awful. Kirk Cousins has played terribly. Look for Aaron Rodgers to have another huge game.

New York Jets at Kansas City Chiefs (-19.5)

The Chiefs are Super Bowl champs who have covered six times. The Jets are winless and have covered once.

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills (-3.5)

The Patriots have no offense. They look listless after Cam Newton was benched during a 33-6 loss to San Francisco on Sunday. Buffalo will be motivated to finish off New England’s reign of terror in the East.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens (-3.5)

Baltimore is of a bye week, at home, and the Steelers just played a very physical game against the Titans. Tough spot for Pittsburgh.

Tennessee Titans (-5.5) at Cincinnati Bengals

Don’t worry about the loss to Pittsburgh. Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry are a dynamic duo, A.J. Brown is a star, and the defense will get pressure on Joe Burrow.

Los Angeles Chargers (-3) at Denver Broncos

Justin Herbert is miles better than Drew Lock, and the Chargers have a much more complete roster than Denver.

New Orleans Saints (-2.5) at Chicago Bears

Nick Foles and the Bears’ offense is a mess. New Orleans might get healthier with Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders potentially returning. It’s a mismatch.

San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks (-3)

After losing to Arizona, the Seahawks will be refocused and ready to take on the Niners, who while talented, are overmatched here.

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles (-7.5)

Mike McCarthy. Mike DiNucci. Yikes.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-9.5) at New York Giants

Tom Brady isn’t going to need a squeaker against Daniel Jones and the Giants.
