Packers GM details how Aaron Rodgers situation unfolded in Green Bay

A few weeks ago, star Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers publicly announced that he intends to play for the New York Jets in 2023.

Rodgers additionally shed light on his standing with the Green Bay Packers, painting the picture that he was no longer seeing eye-to-eye with the franchise. General manager Brian Gutekunst shot down that notion by noting that he attempted several times to get ahold of the four-time league MVP.

“I was really looking forward to the conversations with Aaron to see how he fit into that,” Gutekunst said Monday via ESPN. “Those never transpired. So there came a time where we had to make some decisions, so we went through his representatives to try to talk to him [about] where were we going with our team. At that point, they informed us that he would like to be traded to the Jets.”

These comments certainly show that there isn’t a clear line of communication between both sides. Instead, likely lies somewhere in the middle with the discussion around how things fell apart.

Rodgers has made it quite evident that he hasn’t felt on the same page with the Packers. His interest now lies directly with moving forward with his NFL career in New York.

However, the Packers and Jets haven’t moved toward finalizing a trade. There doesn’t appear that a deal will transpire soon, but rather that both teams will take their time in hammering out the details.

Rodgers has yet to begin his three-year, $150.8 million deal that runs through the 2026 season.
