Russell Wilson unsure if he’ll be playing last game for Seahawks in Seattle
The Seattle Seahawks are heading toward their second time missing the playoffs with Russell Wilson under center.
The scrutiny around the franchise has ramped up again concerning Wilson’s long-term future. The Seahawks are heading toward an expected rebuilding phase that draws doubt whether the eight-time Pro Bowler will be part of the next chapter.
As Seattle heads into Week 17 action against the Detroit Lions, Wilson voiced that he hopes the 2021 season isn’t his final campaign with the franchise.
“I know for me personally, I hope it’s not my last game. But at the same time, I know it won’t be my last game in the NFL. I’m just focused on today and getting better today. That’s my goal. I love this city and I love this moment. I love these guys and we gotta make sure we get better today. That’s all that matters,” Wilson said via Pro Football Talk.
The 33-year-old likely controls his fate as his desire to compete for a Super Bowl may push him to want to play elsewhere. The Seahawks are headed to an expected rebuild due to the lack of depth on the roster, specifically defensively.
Several teams such as the New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders, and Chicago Bears could make a run at acquiring. Wilson is in the second year of his four-year, $140 million deal that runs through the 2023 campaign.
