Michael Pittman Jr. Didn’t Hold Back About Aaron Rodgers After First Steelers Workout
After months of anticipation, star quarterback Aaron Rodgers returned to the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year, up-to-$25 million deal this past weekend.
Rodgers made his presence felt by appearing for the first day of the Steelers’ voluntary OTA workouts on Monday.
The 42-year-old went through various workouts, including throwing to offseason addition Michael Pittman Jr., who was acquired in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts.
“Even in the first day, he made a couple of great throws, and I was like, wow, I’m really playing with Aaron,” Pittman said via ESPN. “It’s great. I mean, I get to play with another Hall of Fame quarterback because I got to play with Philip Rivers. I’m going to say he’s going to make it. So this is my second.”
In the brief time together on the practice field, Pittman got a sense for the type of player Rodgers is, even at this stage of his career. At the same time, the four-time league MVP didn’t voice his expectations for the former Pro Bowler.
“It didn’t happen to me specifically yet,” PIttman said, “but like I’ve seen it from watching games. … He’s just a vet, just like a super vet quarterback, so he knows what he likes and what he doesn’t like. … if you’re not doing what you’re supposed to do, he’s going to let you know, which is good. I think it’s good to have that leadership.”
The Steelers are hoping that the second time around with Rodgers will equate to more sustainable success and production. There is a strong familiarity, especially with new head coach Mike McCarthy, as the two spent 13 years together with the Green Bay Packers.
