Texans’ Jadeveon Clowney won’t be attending team’s conditioning program

Throughout the offseason, there have been plenty of moves around the league that have seen many players being franchise tagged. One of which has seen the Houston Texans given that designation to outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney.

However, he has yet to sign the $15.967 million franchise tender. Given that this is currently the case, Clowney isn’t expected to attend the Texans’ offseason conditioning program, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Pro Bowl outside linebacker-defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, an unsigned franchise player, won’t be attending the Texans’ offseason conditioning program, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that Clowney isn’t under contract at this point in time. It has become more of a holdout for him as he’s eyeing a new long-term deal with the franchise. The Texans have until July 15 to work out an extension with their star pass rusher.

Clowney has dealt with nagging injuries. Although, he has proven to be a critical piece of the puzzle along the defensive front. He and J.J. Watt have formed a highly formidable pass-rushing duo that has been the anchor of their defense.

In the last three years, he has stepped up his game earning three straight Pro Bowl selections and is coming off his second straight season with at least 9.0 sacks. This is a situation that could bleed over the next couple of months before there is a resolution met with the potential of that being a new lucrative extension in place at some point prior to the deadline.
