Tom Brady is a no-show at the beginning of Patriots’ OTAs

The New England Patriots opened up phase three of their offseason program with voluntary team workouts on Monday. They had a couple of notable faces who were not present at the team’s practice facility.

This was headlined by reigning league MVP quarterback Tom Brady choosing not to attend the first day of OTAs, according to ESPN.

Quarterback Tom Brady will not be at the opening of the New England Patriots’ organized team activities on Monday, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The decision to not participate in the voluntary workout by Brady is out of the norm. He has typically partaken in this part of the team offseason activities in season’s past. In fact, he has skipped all of the team’s offseason workouts so far this year. This has brought a cloud attention toward there still being some underlying issues between the 40-year-old and the Patriots that has lingered from the latter half of the regular season.

Much of this was centered around New England deciding to limit the access of Brady’s trainer, Alex Guerrero. It was causing internal issues with the usage of the team’s only training staff. The All-Pro quarterback hasn’t been vocal about his disgruntlement. However, the rumblings around him suggest that he isn’t exactly on the greatest of terms with the franchise.

At the same token, Brady is expected to be present for the mandatory minicamp that begins in June. Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski was also absent from OTAs on Monday. Although he is also anticipated to be back with the team next month as he’s dealing with the restructuring of his contract.
