49ers Secure Trent Williams with Massive Extension Through 2027
The San Francisco 49ers can finally put to bed the uncertainty around star left tackle Trent Williams as he agreed to a two-year, $50 million extension that keeps him under contract through the 2027 season.
Throughout the first couple of months of the offseason, the 49ers faced the realistic possibility that Williams might have played his last game for the franchise.
However, the two sides reached an agreement that keeps Williams in tow.
“We’re really excited about that,” general manager John Lynch said via ESPN. “[We’re] really happy to have that behind us and Trent in the fold. And as I told Trent when we started this thing, my hope is that his name, his number are up in those rafters with a lot of great players that have played here.
“There’s a buzz in the building. The players are back. It’s the first day back for phase one, but there’s a buzz because of what Trent means to this place. So we’re very excited.”
Williams’ new deal includes $37 million in fully guaranteed money, with a $22 million signing bonus. It also pushes him toward being the first non-quarterback in league history to have more than $400 million in career earnings and $225 million in guarantees.

Before the extension, he was heading into the 2026 season with no guaranteed money or years left on his deal after the team declined the $10 million option bonus. The 49ers were also set to take a $38.84 million cap hit, including a base salary of $22.21 million.
Instead, the 49ers are keeping their offensive line cornerstone, who is still playing at an elite level after earning another Pro Bowl selection and second-team All-Pro nod last season.
