Phoenix Suns Reach NBA Finals For 3rd Time In Their History

The Phoenix Suns have reached the NBA Finals for the third time in history and the first time since 1993.

The Phoenix Suns secured the Finals berth with a 130 – 103 Game 6 win over the Clippers on Wednesday.

Chris Paul, who played six seasons for the Clippers, scored a career playoff-high 41 points. It’s Paul’s first trip to the finals in his storied 16-year NBA career.

Devin Booker scored 22 points while Deandre Ayton scored 16 points and had 17 rebounds.

Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams and Chris Paul go way back to 2010 when Paul played in New Orleans. That was Williams’ rookie year as an NBA head coach and now the pair are going to the finals together.

“I’ve known Chris for 11 years now, so impact — we would be here all day talking about our friendship,” Williams said before Game 6.

“It’s bigger than basketball. There’s a connection and kinship there from the tough talks, the coaching, the texts, FaceTime, watching games. That probably sticks out to me, along with a few other things.”

Phoenix will face either the Bucks or the Hawks in the Finals and will have no reason to fear either of them.

Their route to the Finals includes a defeat of the defending champions Los Angeles Lakers. As well as that, they swept newly crowned MVP Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. Now, having ended the Clippers season in LA, Phoenix will feel it can take on anybody.

The Suns first reached the Finals in 1976 when they lost in 6 games to the Boston Celtics. The last time they played in the Finals was in 1993, when they lost in 6 games to the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan.
