Redskins cut Jay Gruden loose after 0-5 start
The Washington Redskins have mercifully put head coach Jay Gruden out of his misery. He has been fired as a result of an abysmal 0 – 5 start.
Jay Gruden was fired Monday following a 33-7 loss to the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots at home.
“Through the first five games of the 2019 season, the team has clearly not performed up to expectations, and we all share in that responsibility,” according to a statement Monday from the Redskins. “Moving forward we are committed to doing all that we can collectively as an organization to turn things around and give our Redskins fans and alumni a team they can be proud of in 2019 and beyond.”

That wasn’t exactly how Gruden found out, though, according to the Washington Post, it was in the same general neighborhood:
Gruden was summoned to the team’s facility in Ashburn for a 5 a.m. meeting Monday by owner Daniel Snyder and team president Bruce Allen, who informed him of the decision.
In six seasons in Washington, Gruden only made the playoffs once, in 2015. Additionally, he lost in the wild card round that year. He finishes with an overall record of 35-50-1.
