Tony Romo comes up short at U.S. Open qualifier
Tony Romo’s dream of playing in a U.S. Open will have to wait at least one more year. He failed to advance out of the local qualifier being held Split Rail Links & Golf Club in Aledo, Texas on Monday, shooting a three-over par round of 75.

Romo’s round was not devoid of good moments. The big highlight came on the par-five 14th hole. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback stuck his second shot to roughly two feet away, eventually kicking it in to make eagle.
Unfortunately, he made a triple-bogey on the very next hole after his tee shot found water, effectively ending what was already a long shot to advance.
But even before the disaster on 15, Romo’s good moments were few and far between. More often than not, the putter was the culprit, giving him only a fleeting chance through the back nine.
Prior to his eagle on 14, Romo missed birdie opportunities on one, two, three, four, six, eight, 12, and 13. Additionally, Romo’s putter let him down with three-putt bogeys on seven and nine.
Had Romo advanced, he would have had to pass another grueling test, a 36-hole sectional qualifier on June 5. The U.S. Open will take place from June 15-18 at Erin Hills in Wisconsin, not far from where Romo grew up.
