Washington Wizards: Heel Surgery to End Season for John Wall

Washington Wizards star guard John Wall will have season ending surgery on his left heel to repair bone spurs. The team released a statement during Saturday’s win over Charlotte about Wall’s upcoming surgery.

Wall, who is 28, will be sidelined between six and eight months before he can return to full activity on the basketball court, said the team statement.

Doctors determined that the procedure was necessary for Wall to fix an issue he has been bothered with for over a year. Wall met on Saturday with a specialist who recommended he undergo the surgery.

The Wizards’ star guard was attempting to play through his injury, but one source said it was becoming worse and having surgery at this time should give Wall enough time to be 100% for the beginning of next season.

Wizards head coach Scott Brooks said he has been with Wall for three years and the player is as tough as there is and never complained. However, added Brooks, the injury become worse and that was why he met with the specialist and made a tough decision.

Through Saturday’s 130-126 win over the Hornets, Wall has averaged 20.7 points and 8.7 assists per game. Wall has been able play through pain and even scored 40 points and dished out 14 assists earlier this month against the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, there have been times when the swelling and pain made it difficult to move. In a December 8 game versus Cleveland, he was held to one point, and then missed the next game in Indiana two days later.

With the win on Saturday, the Wizards are now 14-24 on the season. The win snapped a three-game losing streak.

Tomas Satoransky took Wall’s starting spot for the second consecutive night on Saturday and scored 20 points while handing out six assists against Charlotte.
