Winnipeg Jets Return to Form at Home

The Winnipeg Jets proved they’re not reliant on superstar Patrik Laine on Thursday with a win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

The game, which the Jets won 6 – 2, saw all four lines score for Winnipeg after going a goal down.

The Chicago Blackhawks scored with their first shot on goal, with Brandon Saad converting after 11 seconds.

Paul Stastny equalized for the Jets after 3:43 before Joel Amerira gave them the lead at 5:18.

Jack Roslovic outmuscled the Hawks Artem Anisimov to make it 3 – 1 after 9:26, and Winnipeg never looked back. Bryan Little scored for the first time in 12 games. After that, rookie Kyle Connor scored twice to take his tally to 25 for the season. Patrick Sharp also scored for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck turned away 25 shots for his 36th win.

It was a solid team performance from the Winnipeg Jets, who proved they win when Patrick Laine doesn’t score.

During the Jets recent run of 6 away games in 12 days, Laine scored 8 of the team’s 13 goals. With his assist for Stastny’s goal Thursday night, he extended his club-record point streak to 14 games. No other teenager has gone on a longer scoring streak than Laine in the NHL.

He ranks second in the NHL with 40 goals and leads the league with 18 power-play goals.

With the win, the Jets improved to 42-19-10 on the season. They’re now on 94 points, nine ahead of the Minnesota Wild, who are third in the Central Division.

Kyle Connor emphasised the attacking depth at the Winnipeg Jets’ disposal after the game:

“That’s been the story of the whole season, our depth up front. It really showed tonight with all four lines.

“We lost our last couple of games so we really wanted to rebound and coming home we had our legs and we got going. That was a tough back-to-back (in Washington Monday and Nashville Tuesday) to end a 12-day roadie, so we’re a little refreshed and it showed tonight.”
