LeBron James ‘Wouldn’t Feel Good About’ Winning NBA Finals MVP Without Title

The Cleveland Cavaliers head into Game 6 of the NBA Finals on the verge of elimination with the Golden State Warriors having the opportunity to win the NBA title at Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday night. Although the Warriors are favored to win tonight with a -4 point spread according to Sportsbook.ag, LeBron may still walk away with the NBA Finals MVP.

With LeBron putting up ridiculous numbers across the board during the Finals, there’s a strong case being made for him to be the MVP regardless of the outcome. James isn’t thrilled about the prospect of earning a third NBA Finals MVP without a third NBA title to go along with it, via Jason Lloyd of Ohio.com:

LeBron James dismissed Tuesday the idea he could win the Most Valuable Player award of these NBA Finals even if the Cavaliers lose. They enter tonight’s Game 6 facing elimination against the Golden State Warriors despite James’ sparkling efforts.

“I wouldn’t feel good about it at all,” James said. “At the end of the day I’m here to win a team prize, and that’s to win a championship, not an individual prize.”

LeBron may be receiving a lot of consideration for the NBA Finals MVP, win or lose, but if things stay the course in terms of giving the award to a winning player, Stephen Curry may be the favorite with another impressive performance in Game 6. Andre Iguodala is another player that will be considered when the time comes if the Warriors come out on top on Tuesday night.

Ironcially enough, Jerry West, the man that helped put this Warriors team together, is the last and only player in NBA history to win the NBA Finals MVP on a losing team. West won the award with the Los Angeles Lakers after losing to Bill Russell’s Boston Celtics back in 1969.
