Vikings’ Justin Jefferson opens up about ‘difficult season’

Heading into Week 14 action, the Minnesota Vikings appear headed toward missing the playoffs.

The Vikings sit at a 4-8 record, likely facing the prospect of failing to reach that mark for the second time in the last three seasons. Despite the team’s shortcomings, star wide receiver Justin Jefferson wouldn’t say that the franchise was wasting his prime years.

“No, I wouldn’t say wasted,” Jefferson said via ESPN. “Obviously it’s a difficult season. It’s probably one of the most difficult seasons just off of the circumstances, having a young quarterback, having a different team, having young players on the team. So it’s just one of those years.

“Not every year is going to be a top-tier year for me. It’s really a part of the game, so it’s just all on me to expect a lot from these guys and to improve on anything that we need to improve on as an offense.”

Jefferson also wouldn’t go as far as to say he was concerned about the Vikings’ long-term future, but more so frustrated with how things have unfolded this season.

The Vikings are coming off another disappointing performance, falling 26-0 to the Seattle Seahawks. It marked their fourth straight loss, including six out of the last eight games.

Even through quarterback struggles, Jefferson remains productive, ranking 12th with 62 receptions, 14th with 799 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns. He is on track to surpass 1,000 receiving yards for the sixth consecutive time in his career, spanning multiple seasons.

Jefferson may not publicly express his concerns about the franchise’s direction, but the offseason ahead could bring about significant changes in Minnesota.
