Dez Bryant’s Agents Meet With Cowboys Brass To Talk Contract

The Dallas Cowboys have until July 15 to get something done with their superstar wide receiver Dez Bryant. The departure of Pro Bowler DeMarco Murray to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles was thought to signal a new lucrative long-term contract for Bryant, but the two sides haven’t been able to see eye-to-eye on a new deal.

According to Todd Archer of ESPN, Bryant’s agents met with the Cowboys brass to get the ball rolling in contract talks:

With the deadline to agree to a long-term deal July 15, Dez Bryant’s agents and the Dallas Cowboys had their first face-to-face meeting in nearly four months this week at the team’s facility, sources said.

Although the team will be without their star running back from last season, the Cowboys are considered to be one of the best teams in the league heading into next season. Dallas still has a formidable offensive line with quarterback Tony Romo under center and if all goes well, arguably the best wideout in the league happy with a new deal downfield.

The Cowboys placed a franchise tag on Bryant for the upcoming season. Bryant will earn more than $12 million next season once the tender is signed, but he has yet to do so. Bryant’s agents have threatened to miss games to start the season before a new deal gets done.

Basically, it has come down to a staring contest between Bryant and the Cowboys. Dallas would be foolish to let this go on any further with Dez potentially feeling unappreciated and forcing his way out.

The loss of Bryant would be potentially devastating for the Cowboys. The team is in win-now mode with the current stars in play, but without Dez, that once-potent offense will be no more.
