Golden State Looks For 20th Straight Win to Start the Season
The 2015-16 NBA regular season is less than a quarter completed and the defending champion Golden State Warriors are already sitting at 19-0. The Warriors lead the Pacific division by 8 ½ games over the second place Los Angeles Clippers.
Golden State on Wednesday night will be playing its second of 7 straight road games. The Warriors opponents will be the Charlotte Hornets.
The Hornets are 10-7 on the season but a strong 8-2 at home. Golden State is 19-0 to start the season and 9-0 on the road. The Warriors and Hornets will only meet twice head to head this season.
This is the longest road trip all season for Golden State and could be where the team loses its first game, as traveling will take its toll on the players.
Stephen Curry, the leading scorer in the NBA, hit a 3-pointer to put Golden State ahead with 52 second left to help the Warriors win their last game on Monday night against Utah 106-103.
The fourth quarter of the game was close, with four lead changes and four ties. The win was the Warriors narrowest margin of victory in their first 19 games.
Both Kevon Looney and Harrison Barnes remained sidelined for Golden State with injuries. For Charlotte, Jeremy Lin is questionable, while both Al Jefferson and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are out.
Curry will have a homecoming of sorts in this game as he was a prep star in Charlotte and the son of Dell Curry a former NBA star and now TV analyst.
The Golden State star is given a warm welcome when he returns once a season to Charlotte and that has helped the team each time it plays there.
Charlotte enters this game on Wednesday off five wins over its past six games, with the only defeat during that stretch to the Eastern Conference leader Cleveland.
The Hornets have improved tremendously this season on offense with fewer turnovers and solid shooting beyond the 3-point line.
Charlotte averages the least number of turnovers of any NBA team and is fourth in three-pointers made with 9.5 per game. Kemba Walker is the team’s leading scoring averaging 18.4 points per game.
Even though the Hornets have a pair of injuries to key players, look for them to give Golden State all it can handle in this one. The Warriors will feel more and more pressure with each win as they set a new NBA record with each win until they experience their first loss.
